Biography

Alfred Grinschgl

Alfred Grinschgl was born in Graz in 1952. He studied law at the University of Graz and graduated with a doctorate in law in 1978.

From 1971 he was employed as editor of the daily newspaper Südost-Tagespost in Graz. He then worked in Vienna as domestic-politics editor with the Roman Catholic weekly Die Furche from 1976 to 1979.

Afterwards, and up to 2001, he was active as Managing Director of various subsidiaries within the Styria publishing house group (now Styria Media Group AG) in Graz, including Grazer Kabel-TV GmbH and Telekabel Graz as the Cinevision television and video production company.

From 1993 Alfred Grinschgl had a leading role in establishing private radio companies in Austria, serving as founding Managing Director of Antenne Steiermark – the first private radio station licensed in Austria – and as Managing Director of Antenne Wien.

Since June 1st 2001 Alfred Grinschgl has been a Managing Director of the Austrian Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (RTR), responsible for the Media Division.

RTR provides operational support for the Austrian Communications Authority (KommAustria) in the fulfilment of its duties. Alfred Grinschgl is additionally responsible for FERNSEHFONDS AUSTRIA (Austrian Television Fund), for the funding of non-commercial and commercial broadcasters and for the Austrian Digitization Fund.
